The Mazda Scrum DJ51T and DK51T are classic Japanese kei trucks, offering tiny dimensions, practical utility and distinctive JDM character. Essentially Mazda’s version of the Suzuki Carry, they share much of the same proven mechanical platform and compete directly with the Honda Acty, Subaru Sambar and Daihatsu Hijet.
Powered by a compact 660cc F6A engine, the DJ51T is 2WD, while the DK51T is 4WD, making it better suited to rural, farm and recreational use. Their compact cab-over layout provides excellent manoeuvrability and a surprisingly useful tray.
One of the Scrum’s interesting features is its two factory headlight designs. Depending on trim and specification, buyers could choose between the classic round headlights or the more angular rectangular “brick” headlights. Both designs were factory options, giving the same chassis a distinctly different appearance.
