About Honda Integra Type R:
The Honda Integra DC5 Type R is a defining performance car of Honda’s early-2000s era, bringing the Type R philosophy into a larger, more modern package while retaining the high-revving, naturally aspirated character that made the Integra name famous. Built around the 2.0L K20A DOHC i-VTEC, the JDM Type R delivers approximately 220 PS at 8,000 rpm, paired with a close-ratio 6-speed manual and factory helical LSD.
Early 2001 examples are particularly significant for Australian enthusiasts, as they are now reaching the 25-year threshold for the older vehicle import pathway, allowing qualifying vehicles to be imported from Japan into Australia subject to the relevant approval requirements. This makes the DC5 Type R one of the newer Honda performance cars now becoming accessible to Australian buyers.
The DC5 Type R was engineered around performance, with Type R-specific suspension, high-rigidity construction, Brembo front brakes, Recaro front bucket seats, lightweight wheels and a driver-focused interior. Its 2.0-litre K20A also represents a significant evolution from the B-series engines of the earlier DC2 Type R, offering more displacement and torque while retaining Honda’s naturally aspirated, high-revving philosophy.
For Australian enthusiasts, the JDM DC5 Type R is becoming an increasingly attractive import from Japan, particularly as early cars enter the 25-year window. As with other Japanese performance cars, buyers and collectors tend to favour original, well-maintained examples with low kilometres and minimal modification.
The DC5 Type R sits at an interesting point in Honda’s performance history: more modern and substantially more powerful than the DC2, yet still retaining the raw mechanical character of a naturally aspirated, manual, LSD-equipped Honda. It offers a compelling combination of everyday usability and genuine Type R performance.
