About Honda Integra Type R:

“The Honda Integra DC2 Type R is arguably the car that best represents what Honda was in the 1990s. It converted countless enthusiasts to front-wheel-drive performance, proving that a lightweight FWD car could be genuinely fast, engaging and rewarding to drive. The JDM DC2 Type R paired an aggressive, lightweight chassis with Honda’s legendary DOHC VTEC B18C, creating a high-revving, agile and remarkably focused performance car.

Available in several factory revisions:

96 Spec — The original JDM Type R, featuring 4-stud 15-inch wheels, 262 mm front brakes and a 4.4 final drive, together with the B18C DOHC VTEC and S80 5-speed manual with helical LSD.

98 Spec — A substantial mechanical update, moving to 5-stud hubs, 16-inch wheels and larger 282 mm front brakes, alongside revised suspension, ABS, a 4.785 final drive and an updated S80 gearbox. These changes improved braking, grip and overall chassis performance while retaining the lightweight Type R character.

Later “00 Spec” revision — The final development of the JDM DC2 Type R, bringing further engine and drivetrain refinements while retaining the 98 Spec’s major chassis upgrades. “00 Spec” is an enthusiast term used to identify these later cars rather than an official Honda trim name.

At the heart of the DC2 Type R is the B18C DOHC VTEC, producing around 200 PS at 8,000 rpm and capable of reaching approximately 8,400 rpm. Combined with its low weight, close-ratio S80 transmission and factory helical LSD, the DC2 delivers an exceptionally direct driving experience.

The Type R philosophy is evident throughout the car: strip away the unnecessary and distil the car down to its essential performance components. Factory Recaro bucket seats, aggressive styling and the distinctive JDM “brick” headlights give it an unmistakable identity, while even air conditioning was optional on the stripped-back Type R.

Today, the DC2 Type R is a highly collectable 1990s Japanese performance car, with values for good examples having risen steadily over the past decade. JDM DC2 Type Rs remain a popular choice for importing from Japan into Australia, with enthusiasts and collectors increasingly favouring low-kilometre, well-maintained and original, unmodified examples.

For buyers, the appeal is ultimately simple: a high-revving naturally aspirated engine, lightweight construction, manual LSD-equipped drivetrain and an uncompromising chassis. Few cars capture the essence of 1990s Honda performance quite as completely as the DC2 Type R.”
