About Nissan GT-R:
The Nissan GT-R R35 marked a new chapter for the legendary GT-R nameplate, moving away from the Skyline name and introducing a completely new performance formula built around the 3.8L twin-turbo VR38DETT V6, advanced all-wheel drive and a rear-mounted dual-clutch transmission. When it arrived in 2007, it delivered supercar-level performance while remaining a relatively practical road car.
For Australian buyers, earlier R35 GT-Rs are particularly significant because the model is listed on the Specialist and Enthusiast Vehicle Scheme (SEVS).* The current listing covers Japanese-market R35 GT-Rs built from November 2007 through February 2009, making eligible examples available to import through the specialist vehicle pathway, subject to the applicable approval requirements.*

Base Model R35 GT-R — The original R35 specification, powered by the 3.8L twin-turbo VR38DETT and paired with Nissan’s advanced GR6 dual-clutch transmission and all-wheel-drive system.

One consideration when viewing earlier R35s is the GR6 dual-clutch transmission and its early launch-control programming. Some of the earliest cars experienced transmission issues associated with the aggressive launch system, particularly when subjected to repeated hard launches. Nissan subsequently introduced revised transmission and launch-control programming, and updated software was also made available to existing cars. As a result, it is worth checking the service history and whether the relevant ECU/TCM updates or preventative transmission work have already been carried out.
The R35 also had an extraordinary production run. Introduced in 2007, it remained in production for nearly two decades, with Nissan completing production of the final R35 GT-R in 2025.
For Australian enthusiasts, R35 GT-Rs are readily imported from Japan, with Japanese-market cars offering competitive import opportunities when exchange rates are favourable. Good-condition, low-kilometre examples are generally preferred, particularly cars with documented maintenance histories and minimal modifications.
