About Subaru Impreza WRX STI:
The Subaru Impreza WRX STI GDB “Bug-Eye”, known as Version 7, is one of the most distinctive early JDM performance Subarus. Its aggressive styling and rally-bred engineering have made it increasingly desirable. Now eligible for import under Australia’s 25-year-old vehicle pathway, these cars are commonly sourced from Japan and offer competitive pricing.
At its heart is the legendary 2.0-litre turbocharged EJ207, paired with a 6-speed manual AWD drivetrain developed around Subaru’s rally technology. The STI’s low centre of gravity also contributes to excellent handling, stability and driver confidence.
The rarer STI Spec C variants are particularly collectible, with a stronger focus on weight reduction and competition use. Depending on specification, they can feature a roof ventilation hatch, reduced equipment and other performance-focused upgrades.
The Bug-Eye shares the same fundamental EJ207-powered AWD DNA as the later 2005–2007 Hawkeye GDB STI, while often offering a more competitive entry point. Once imported, qualifying examples may also be eligible for older car classic club permit schemes in applicable states.
