About Honda Civic Type R:
The Honda Civic Type R FK2 marked the beginning of the turbocharged Type R era. Combining a powerful 2.0-litre VTEC Turbo engine, a six-speed manual gearbox and purposeful styling, it delivers an engaging driving experience in a practical five-door hatchback.
Built by Honda in the United Kingdom and exported to Japan, the FK2 was offered to Japanese buyers in a limited allocation of 750 cars. That limited Japanese release adds to its appeal for Australian enthusiasts looking to import a distinctive Honda Civic Type R from Japan.
Engine and transmission
The FK2 Type R is powered by Honda’s 2.0-litre turbocharged, direct-injection four-cylinder engine, designated K20C in Japanese specifications. It produces 228kW (310PS) at 6,500rpm and 400Nm between 2,500 and 4,500rpm.
Every FK2 Type R features front-wheel drive and a six-speed manual transmission. Strong mid-range torque gives it substantial overtaking performance, while the close-ratio gearbox keeps the driver involved. The engine is designed to run on premium unleaded petrol.
Handling and performance equipment
The FK2’s chassis was developed to make full use of its turbocharged performance. Its Dual Axis Strut front suspension helps manage torque steer, while an Adaptive Damper System continuously adjusts damping at each wheel.
Factory equipment includes 19-inch alloy wheels, Brembo four-piston front brake calipers and large drilled front brake discs. The widened front arches, prominent rear wing, front splitter and rear diffuser give the car its distinctive appearance while supporting cooling and aerodynamic performance.
Selecting +R mode sharpens engine response and changes the suspension, steering assistance and stability-control settings for more focused driving.
Japanese-market specification
Civic Type R FK2: Japan received one main Type R specification, combining the full-output turbocharged engine with the six-speed manual, adaptive dampers, Brembo front brakes and dedicated Honda Type R front sports seats.
Championship White: The traditional Type R colour, complementing the red Honda badges, bold bodywork and red-and-black interior.
Crystal Black Pearl: The alternative factory colour offered in Japan, giving the same performance specification a darker appearance.
Japanese-market cars also feature automatic climate control, Honda’s smart-key system and a navigation-ready equipment package incorporating a rear camera, steering-wheel audio controls and USB connectivity. The fitted navigation or audio unit can vary between individual vehicles.
Everyday usability
The FK2 combines its performance hardware with five doors and seating for four, making it easier to accommodate passengers and luggage than its aggressive appearance might suggest. Inside, supportive front sports seats, an aluminium gear knob and performance displays reinforce its driver-focused character.
The Honda Civic Type R FK2 is a compelling performance hatchback to import from Japan into Australia, offering turbocharged power, manual driving involvement and everyday versatility. Fukasawa Car Imports can help source an example that suits your preferred colour, condition and budget.
