About Nissan Skyline R34 GT-R:

The Nissan Skyline R34 GT-R is widely regarded as the pinnacle of the 1990s JDM performance era, arriving at a time when Japan’s automotive industry was at the height of its prosperity and manufacturers were pushing performance further than ever. After decades of refinement, Nissan created an uncompromising performance car that remained a road-legal production machine, retaining the true spirit of a purpose-built performance car.

The R34 quickly became a defining symbol of JDM car culture, with its racing heritage, aggressive design, RB26 engine and appearances in games, films and the tuning scene making it one of the most recognisable Japanese performance cars ever produced.

GT-R — The standard BNR34, featuring the RB26DETT 2.6L twin-turbo inline-six, 6-speed manual transmission, sophisticated four-wheel-drive system and Super-HICAS four-wheel steering.

GT-R V-Spec — Performance-focused specification with dedicated aerodynamic components, specially tuned suspension, upgraded brakes and Nissan’s more advanced ATTESA E-TS Pro system.

GT-R V-Spec II — Further-developed V-Spec introduced in 2000, featuring a carbon-fibre bonnet with NACA duct, aluminium pedals and 18-inch wheels.

GT-R M-Spec — More comfort-oriented performance specification, featuring revised suspension with Ripple Control dampers, a softer setup and heated front seats.

GT-R V-Spec II Nür — Limited-production flagship based on the V-Spec II, fitted with an N1-based RB26DETT with strengthened and balanced internal components. 718 examples were produced.

GT-R M-Spec Nür — Limited-production model combining the M-Spec’s more comfortable character with the Nür-specification engine. 285 examples were produced.

R34 GT-Rs have since become something of a holy grail for JDM enthusiasts, carrying the spirit of the car enthusiast community decades after production ended. They represent excess in its purest form — serious power paired with the raw mechanical connection of a 6-speed manual, sophisticated AWD and a highly developed chassis.

The R34 GT-R has also become one of the most desirable cars in the classic Skyline GT-R lineage. V-Spec, V-Spec II and especially the limited Nür models command substantial premiums, although condition, originality, mileage and provenance remain critical when determining value.

For enthusiasts, the BNR34 represents the culmination of the BNR32, BCNR33 and BNR34 lineage. While the R32 established the modern GT-R legend and the R33 refined the formula, the R34 brought together decades of development into a sharper, more focused package.

R34 GT-Rs are a highly sought-after JDM import from Japan into Australia, although their prices have moved well beyond what most would consider an affordable enthusiast car. With the model now firmly established as a global collector icon, the classic collector trifecta of rarity, desirability and condition has become increasingly important in determining value.

The BNR34 remains one of the ultimate expressions of Nissan’s classic GT-R era — a car that combined enormous performance, advanced technology, motorsport heritage and unmistakable 1990s styling, becoming a lasting symbol of what was possible during the golden era of Japanese performance cars.
