About Honda Civic Type R:
The Honda Civic Type R FD2 brings Honda’s naturally aspirated performance formula to a distinctive four-door sedan. Built in Japan, it combines a responsive K20A engine, a six-speed manual gearbox and a chassis developed for enthusiastic driving. For Australian buyers, it offers the appeal of a Japanese-market Type R with useful everyday practicality.
Introduced in March 2007, the FD2 Type R produces 225 PS (165 kW) at 8,000 rpm and 215 Nm at 6,100 rpm from its 2.0-litre DOHC i-VTEC engine. Its character rewards drivers who enjoy exploring the rev range, with a close-ratio manual transmission keeping the engine working where it feels most lively. Every FD2 Type R was naturally aspirated, front-wheel drive and manual.
A factory helical limited-slip differential, Brembo four-piston front brakes and 18-inch wheels complete the performance package. Inside, supportive Honda-designed sports seats, an aluminium gear knob and a dedicated engine-speed indicator give the cabin a purposeful feel.
Variants to know
Civic Type R — Early models — The original FD2 Type R combines the 225 PS K20A drivetrain with distinctive bumpers, side skirts and a prominent rear wing. Launch colours included Championship White, Super Platinum Metallic and Vivid Blue Pearl, with a choice of red-and-black or all-black interior trim.
Civic Type R — Updated models — From September 2008, Honda introduced revised rear lights, standard power-folding mirrors and an updated colour range. These cars retain the same 225 PS engine and six-speed manual transmission, making appearance, condition and equipment useful factors when comparing early and later examples.
Honda Civic Mugen RR — A special complete car developed by Mugen, limited to 300 examples and finished in Milano Red. Its tuned K20A produces 240 PS, accompanied by dedicated suspension, forged wheels, upgraded braking components and distinctive bodywork. Genuine Mugen RR cars have their own numbered identification plate and are a particularly distinctive part of the FD2 story.
The Honda Civic Type R FD2 is an appealing car to import from Japan into Australia for buyers who value naturally aspirated response, manual driving and classic Honda engineering. Its combination of performance and four-door practicality suits both an enjoyable everyday car and a carefully preserved enthusiast purchase. Fukasawa Car Imports can help source an eligible FD2 Type R that suits your preferences and budget.
