About Mitsubishi Pajero Evolution:

The Mitsubishi Pajero Evolution V55W is a true rally hero car and one of the most iconic performance 4WDs of the 1990s.

Built during Mitsubishi’s dominant era in off-road motorsport, the Pajero Evolution brought the company’s competition technology to the road. The Pajero had already established itself as a Dakar winner, and the Evolution-based competition car went on to take overall victory in 1998, cementing the Pajero’s reputation as one of the great rally and off-road machines of its era.

The road-going V55W was far more than a cosmetic upgrade. It received a 3.5L 6G74 MIVEC V6, widened track, upgraded front suspension, rear double-wishbone independent suspension, overfenders and an aluminium bonnet. Combined with Mitsubishi’s Super Select 4WD, it created a performance-focused Pajero capable of both serious off-road driving and impressive on-road performance.

It also carries the legendary “Evolution” name shared with the Lancer Evolution. While the two cars were built for very different environments, they share the same Mitsubishi philosophy: take a proven production car and add the engineering and performance technology developed through motorsport.

Produced from 1997 to 1999, the Pajero Evolution was built in limited numbers and has become a highly collectible JDM. Today, pristine and original examples are sought after by enthusiasts and collectors around the world, with their combination of MIVEC V6 power, advanced 4WD, independent suspension and genuine Mitsubishi motorsport heritage making them increasingly desirable.

For Australian buyers, the Pajero Evolution is an excellent car to import from Japan. Finding a clean, original V55W with good history and minimal rust can be difficult, which is exactly where sourcing the right car directly from Japan makes sense.

A genuine Mitsubishi rally hero, a proper performance 4WD and an increasingly collectible JDM — the Pajero Evolution is a car worth importing while the best examples can still be found in Japan.
