About Mitsubishi Pajero Mini:

Mitsubishi Pajero Mini H53A / H58A

The second-generation Mitsubishi Pajero Mini H53A/H58A took the popular mini Pajero formula and made it bigger, more refined and better suited to everyday driving, while keeping the compact kei-car dimensions and genuine 4WD character.

Introduced in 1998, the second-generation Pajero Mini grew to meet Japan’s updated kei-car regulations, with a wider and longer body and more interior space. It remained a compact 3-door, 4-seat kei SUV and was offered in both 2WD and 4WD versions.

H53A — The 2WD/FR version, available with naturally aspirated and turbo engines depending on year and grade.

H58A — The 4WD version, using Mitsubishi’s Easy Select 4WD system. This is the version to look for if you’re after the full Pajero Mini 4WD experience.

Pajero Mini Duke

The Duke is one of the standout versions of the second-generation Pajero Mini. Introduced as a more distinctive, street-focused model, it was H58A 4WD only and featured a unique front-end design with a large, deep chrome vertical-bar grille, giving it a much tougher and more premium appearance than the standard Pajero Mini.

The Duke was also offered with the 659cc 4A30 turbo, producing the kei-car maximum of 64 PS. Depending on year, the turbo engine was available in both DOHC 20-valve and later SOHC 16-valve forms, with 5-speed manual and 4-speed automatic transmissions available.

Today, the H53A/H58A remains a popular choice for buyers looking for a budget-friendly JDM kei SUV, combining tiny dimensions, low running costs and plenty of character. The H58A 4WD — particularly the turbocharged Duke — is an appealing choice for anyone wanting something more distinctive.

For Australian buyers, these are excellent candidates to import from Japan to order. A clean H58A Duke gives you the classic Pajero styling, genuine Mitsubishi 4WD hardware and kei-car practicality in one compact package.

If you’re looking for an affordable JDM mini SUV with a bit more personality, the Pajero Mini Duke is one of the versions worth hunting down in Japan.
