About Nissan Pulsar GTI-R:
The Nissan Pulsar GTI-R packs serious performance into a compact three-door hatchback. Developed for Nissan’s World Rally Championship programme, the RNN14 arrived in Japan in 1990 with a turbocharged 2.0-litre SR20DET, ATTESA all-wheel drive and a five-speed manual transmission. Its prominent bonnet scoop and rear spoiler still make it instantly recognisable.
The Japanese-market GTI-R produced 230 PS and 284 Nm. Every RNN14 GTI-R was turbocharged, all-wheel drive and manual, but buyers will encounter two main specifications.
Variants to know
GTI-R — The regular road-going version, with more comfort equipment for everyday use. It delivers the full GTI-R drivetrain in the specification most buyers will encounter.
GTI-R Base Specification — A lighter, more basic version aimed at buyers who wanted fewer convenience features. It retains the same 230 PS SR20DET and five-speed manual drivetrain. The original 1990 catalogue lists it at 1,190 kg, compared with 1,220 kg for the regular GTI-R.
For Australian enthusiasts, the Nissan Pulsar GTI-R is a compelling car to import from Japan: compact enough to feel lively on the road, with a direct connection to Nissan’s rally history. Fukasawa Car Imports can help source an RNN14 that suits your preferences for originality, condition and specification.
