About Nissan Silvia S15:
The Nissan Silvia S15 is the final generation of the Silvia and one of the most sought-after Japanese performance cars to import into Australia. Built from 1999 to 2002, it pairs sharp coupe styling with rear-wheel drive and a choice of naturally aspirated or turbocharged 2.0-litre SR engines. Whether you want an original road car or a starting point for a personal build, there is an S15 to suit a wide range of tastes.
Variants to know
Spec S — The naturally aspirated Silvia, powered by the SR20DE. Japanese-market cars were offered with a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic. Manual versions produced 165 PS, while automatics produced 160 PS. A Spec S can be a strong choice for Australian P-platers in eligible states, subject to the exact car, its modifications and local licence rules.
Spec R — The turbocharged Silvia, powered by the SR20DET. It was offered with a six-speed manual producing 250 PS or a four-speed automatic producing 225 PS. The Spec R is the pick for buyers seeking factory turbo performance, and clean manual examples are especially desirable.
Aero — Available on both Spec S and Spec R models, Aero versions add factory body styling for a more distinctive look. Check the underlying grade when comparing cars: the Aero name describes the styling package, while Spec S or Spec R tells you which engine the car has.
Autech Version — A distinctive naturally aspirated S15 with a specially tuned SR20DE producing 200 PS and a six-speed manual transmission. It offers a different character from both the regular Spec S and the turbocharged Spec R.
Varietta — The rare open-top S15, built by Autech with a power-operated metal roof. It uses a naturally aspirated SR20DE and was offered with either a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic.
For Australian buyers, the S15 Silvia remains a popular car to import from Japan because it offers several ways to enjoy the same iconic shape. Factory manuals usually attract stronger demand and higher prices than comparable automatics, while the range of Spec S, Spec R and special versions gives buyers plenty to explore. Fukasawa Car Imports can help you find the Japanese-market S15 that fits your preferences and budget.
